English Meadows Neighborhood
McVay Road
Project
The city of Germantown is currently doing road studies on how to best improve the
radius of the McVay curve on the west end of the street.  If this plan is approved by the
city, a new roadway will be put in and the bridge will be replaced.  There are several
designs being presented with the one above being the most favored.  The majority of
the residents are against this project.  Once the west end of McVay is straightened out,
there are future plans to open up the east end of McVay to Poplar Pike.  While that may
be convenient to some, most are against it.  Opening up McVay will increase traffic
considerably.  Traffic counts done last fall averaged 1,800 cars per day with an average
speed of 37 mph.  The counts done on Stout at the same time average 4,800 per day
with an average speed of 43-44 mph.  We can assume that the "new McVay" will see
traffic volumes increase much more than Stout's current count and average speed.  We
must keep this from happening!  Our children will no longer be safe walking or riding
their bikes to the park as McVay would become a speedway.  Crime may increase as
criminals have easy access in and out of our neighborhood and our property values
may suffer.  We are banding together with The Oaks neighborhood and the residents
on Sleepy Hollow to fight this project.  Please email info@meadowsmemo.org and ask
for a road petition.  We need to submit as many as we can get.  We will post the date
and time for the next road meeting as we encourage as many people as possible to
attend and voice your opinion.
